Kamal Haasan's visit to Ennore highlights corporate encroachment of river




CHENNAI: Actor Kamal Haasanwho is creating waves in Tamil Nadu after announcing his plans to enter politics, opened a new front of activities on Saturday when he took up fishermen's livelihood issues and visited the Ennore area to highlight corporate encroachments of Kosasthalayar river.
        BFishermen of Kattukkuppam near Ennore were in for a surprise, after Kamal made an early morning visit to their areas, and inquired about the problems faced by them due to encroachments in both Ennore creek and Kosasthalayar.

LHis visit invoked immediate response from senior BJP leader and union minister of state for finance Pon Radhakrishnan, who said Kamal should show similar activism with regard to dengue eradication, and that he should tour the entire state. State fisheries minister D Jayakumar avoided direct criticism of the actor, whereas the Thiruvallur district collector Sundaravalli said she had already sent a report to the state pollution control board, even before Kamal's visit.

The actor, accompanied by activist Nityanand Jayaraman, Saravanan of Coastal Resource Centre and fisherman R L Srinivasan of Kattukkuppam, visited the affected Ennore creek and the Kosasthalayar river.
