Performance & Aesthetics

Xiaomi Mi 5 packs the latest Snapdragon 820 SoC at the lowest price at this point of time. The phone also supports either 3 GB or 4GB of RAM in its various models. The Snapdragon 820 is a quad-core chip, but it is one of the fastest chip that is found in the latest generation of flagship phones. To give you a perspective about its performance let me tell you that even the Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 pack the same chip. The phone is also equipped with fast internal memory i.e. UFS 2.0.
With this hardware you will never miss out on any of your hardware performance need. The phone will literally do anything without even breaking a sweat.
Xiaomi Mi 5 is one of the most gorgeous phone that we have seen in a while. The phone has curved sides andboasts Gorilla Glass 4 at the front as well as the back giving the phone a premium look and feel.
The phone has very-thin bezels and has a metal frame protecting the display along the sides. This metal framenot only adds to the looks of the phone but also improves its usability by providing a better grip against that slippery rear glass panel.
Mi 5 tips the scale at 129 grams, making it one of the lightest Android flagship in the recent times.

Memory & Camera

Xiaomi has done away with the need to enable support for external memory via micro SD cards and Mi 5 is no exception. However, the phone comes with 3 storage options like 32 / 64 / 128 GB storage options. As already mentioned, the internal memory (UFS 2.0) is very fast for all the operations that you might be doing on your phone.
This is the same kind of memory that is found on the Galaxy S7 variants starting from Rs. 48,900.
Xiaomi Mi 5 packs a 16 MP rear shooter supporting f/2.0 aperture and supports phase-detection AF too for almost real-time focussing. The phone is also the first of its kind to sport a 4-axis OIS which when coupled with its dual-tone dual-LED flash can take some really amazing low-light photos.
On the front we have 4 MP ultra-pixel camera capable of taking selfies with good amount of details.

Display & Battery Life

The phone packs a 5.15 inch IPS full-HD display protected by Gorilla Glass 4. You might have wished for a 2K display, but trust me, the display is really good and you’ll love it.
The phone runs on Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box and is powered by a 3000 mAh Li-Po battery which is not user accessible. Xiaomi’s unibody design leaves no room for a removable battery setup but who cares about it when you get an excellent battery backup?
The phone can easily last for more a day’s of usage and also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0. Xiaomi claims that Mi 5 can be charged from 0-83% in 30 mins flat. This is really impressive and means that even if drain the battery with heavy gaming and have a party to attend to after your office, then all you need to do is charge it for couple of minutes and you’ll be good to go the evening.

Should You Buy It?

Priced at Rs. 21,000, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is the one of the greatest phones that you can buy at this price tag. The phone’s hardware is also pretty much worth every rupee that you spend on it. The only feature that you would miss is the lack of support for FM Radio, but that’s the only compromise that you will have to make if plan to go for the Mi 5.

Barack Obama commutes sentences of 61 offenders

WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama on Wednesday commuted the sentences of 61 individuals charged mostly with cocaine-related offenses, as he again pressed the case for drug sentencing reforms.

The White House announced that Obama had commuted sentences that ranged from life imprisonment to lesser jail terms for possession and conspiracy to distribute drugs like crack or cocaine.

In December, Obama commuted similar sentences of 95 Americans, foreshadowing a 2016 push to fix th ..

DuckDuckGo: A search engine that doesn’t track you,Fewer clicks,Better Answers,Real Privacy

With technology tracking us everywhere we go, everything we do, “DuckDuckGo” might become our best guard against scrutiny- a search engine that doesn’t track you. DuckDuckGo is a web explorer that emphasizes guarding searchers’ privacy and evading the filter of personalized search results. DuckDuckGo positions itself from other search engines with ten million searches a day by putting privacy first and voluntarily showing all users the same search results for a given search term.
The privacy-focused web search engine startup boasts of ‘superior search experience with fewer clicks, smarter answers, less clutter and real privacy.’ The distinguishing feature of this browser is that it doesn’t collect any personal information and therefore, has none to share.
DuckDuckGo began on 29th February 2008 by Gabriel Weinberg as an idea for a better search experience with more instant answers and less spam. The name DuckDuckGo was adapted from children’s game duck, duck, goose.  The search engine is the default browser of GNOME and is available as an option in the Apple iOS 8 and OS X.
DuckDuckGo’s results rely primarily on APIs. The search results are a compilation of “about 50” sources, including Yahoo! Search BOSS; Wikipedia; Wolfram Alpha; Bing; its own Web crawler, the DuckDuckBot; and others. It also uses data from crowdsourced sites, including Wikipedia, to populate “Zero-click Info” boxes – gray boxes above the results that display topic summaries and related topics.
In May 2014, DuckDuckGo released a redesigned version to beta testers through DuckDuckHack. The new version added many new features such as images, local search, auto-suggest, weather, recipes, social media bio of people without leaving the search engine page, app store search, shorten and expand links, and stopwatch.
There are many points that make DuckDuckGo stand higher with respect to the traditional Google browser. Unlike Google, which filters search results based on the sites you have been visiting, DuckDuckGo shows the same results for a search term to all its users. With Google, you can use the site modifier to search for results within a particular site, but then you still have to open the link to see the results. With DuckDuckGo, you can use the site’s own search functions.
Both Google and DuckDuckGo let you create a quick timer (search for “timer”) but DuckDuckGo also has a stopwatch. Another useful feature shows alternatives to apps in a neat carousel. Tired of MS Office? Just search for “Alternative to Word” and see the results for yourself. It also works for Web services, so you can even search for “Alternative to DuckDuckGo”, if you like.
With many more USPs like generating passwords to changing case or character check, DuckDuckGo grew at a rapid rate, having received 3.25 billion search queries last year, a 74 percent increase over previous year. Though still very small in comparison to search industry leader Google, what DuckDuckGo needs is an awareness drive as not many people have heard about it as yet.

CPM candidate list in Kerala has both VS and Pinarayi Vijayan -

The rumours have been put to rest. VS Achuthanandan and Pinarayi Vijayan, two of the tallest leaders of the CPI(M) in Kerala, will be contesting in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state, thus leaving the party in a quagmire if it comes to power. Both VS and Vijayan, who have led factions against each other for decades within the party, harbour chief ministerial ambitions.
The CPI(M) candidate list, that was released earlier today, confirmed that VS will be fighting for re-election from the Malampuzha seat in Palakkad and Vijayan from the Left pocketborough of Dharmadam in the politically sensitive Kannur district. While VS was the chief minister of the state from 2006 to 2011, Vijayan last held a ministry portfolio between 1996-98.

Both Malampuzha and Dharmadam seats are said to be safe for the party and therefore the victories of both VS and Vijayan are a foregone conclusion. Therefore in the scenario of both leaders winning and the LDF coming to power, it will be a tough decision for the party leadership to choose a leader.
Among the other candidates announced by the party is popular actor Mukesh who has been fielded from the Kollam seat despite objections from the mandal committee of the party. Journalist MV Nikesh Kumar, who heads Reporter TV, a private news channel in Kerala, has also been fielded from Azhikkode as an independent. The CPI (M) is fielding 30 sitting legislators this time. AISF leader at JNU Muhammed Muhasin would contest from Pattambi in Palakkad on a CPI ticket. CPI (M) state secretariat member M M Mani, who had publicly stated that the party had a history of killing rivals, would contest from Udumbanchola in Idukki. In Malappuram, LDF would field 11 independents, including four businessmen, as independents. Some other candidates are Veena George from Aranmula, Thomas Isaac from Alappuzha, G Sudhakaran from Ambalappuzha, Sebastian Paul from Thrikkakara and AK Balan from Tharur. While CPI(M) will be contesting in 92 seats, the remaining are split among the CPI and the smaller allies in the LDF.   LDF convener Vaikkom Vishwan said the candidates for the remaining constituencies would be announced soon after completing discussions. Kristen Stewart, rumored girlfriend SoKo both dated Robert Pattinson

What do Kristen Stewart and her new rumored girlfriend have in common? They both dated Robert Pattinson.
Stewart has recently been snapped spending time with recording artist SoKo, and the two were photographed kissing in Paris last week.

SoKo told the website A Music Blog, Yea? that she went on a blind date with Robert Pattinson when she first moved to Los Angeles.

Steward memorably dated her “Twilight” co-star for several years before they spit after she was caught in photos kissing then-married film director, Rupert Sanders.

SoKo’s time with Pattinson was shorter-lived. She said she moved out to Los Angeles after she had a dream about it.
“Three nights in, I went out and met a girl who was like ‘Hey, I like your music, I work for a label and we would love to sign you. Where are you staying, do you need a place to stay?’ and I was like ‘Yeah I do’ That same night I had a blind date with Robert Pattinson! “

Stewart and SoKo, whose real name is Stéphanie Sokolinski, have yet to publicly confirm their romance.

SoKo, however, has hinted at the relationship, telling W Magzine that she is not seeking out dates on Instagram right now.

“…I’m very, very, very in love and very happy in a relationship, so I don’t have that urge,” she said.

Cine star Suresh Gopi hits campaign trail in Kerala

Star BJP campaigner and cine artist Suresh Gopi has kicked off his high-profile electioneering schedule in style from Palakkad constituency for the May 16 polls to the Kerala Assembly.
He launched a scathing attack on the ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front for its five years of misrule. The choice for voters is to reject those who have compromised the future of the state.
CHOPPER CHARTERED
BJP National President Amit Shah had declared Gopi the star campaigner after the latter politely refused his request to contest the Thiruvananthapuram seat. Cricketer S Sreesanth is now the party's choice for the seat.
The party has chartered a helicopter exclusively for Gopi's use during a scheduled five-day whirlwind tour of 40 Assembly constituencies where he will address large gatherings.
Also, he will share the dais with not just the national president of the party but also Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their campaign tours to the state.
FIERY ORATOR
At Palakkad, where the party has fielded fiery orator Shobha Surendran, Gopi was unsparing in his criticism of the ruling front, which, he said, would be rebuked by voters for its various acts of omission and commission.
The 'tainted' ministers in the Oommen Chandy government have brought enormous disrepute to the state. Gopi was less critical of the Opposition CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front, though.
"It is more important to ensure the defeat of the ruling front. That is our priority," the star campaigner reasoned. He was confident that the BJP would open its account in the state this time round.

CPI(M) Leaders To Share Platform With Rahul Gandhi During Campaign In Bengal

KOLKATA:  The CPI(M) today said its leaders would share stage with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi during his campaign on Saturday for the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.

"We have decided to accept the invitation of Congress party regarding joint campaign during Rahul Gandhi's visit. A senior party leader along with respective Left Front candidates will be present on the platform in all three meetings of Rahul Gandhi on April 2," CPI(M) state secretariat member Shyamal Chakraborty told news agency PTI.

According to senior Congress leaders, CPI(M) leaders' sharing stage with Mr Gandhi during poll campaign will send out a positive message in favour of the alliance which will enhance coordination at the grassroots level.

The CPI(M) and the Congress, which have entered into an electoral pact, have organised joint rallies and unitedly campaigned for alliance candidates.

MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW : Kali CASTING Dulquer Salmaan,Sai Pallavi

Like Shakespeare’s Macbeth who crumbled to a tragic fate owing to his characteristic flaw of being over ambitious, every man has a psychological flaw which when aggravated might invite catastrophic reactions in life. Sameer Tahir on his third directorial venture ‘Kali’, meaning ‘rage’, explores one of mankind’s most dangerous emotions and its subsequent variants, extending to untamed rage.

‘Kali’, is a gripping tale of an angry young man ‘Siddarth’(Dulquer Salman) and his lover turned wife Anjali (Sai Pallavi), who is destined to absorb the unwanted fury of Siddharth. The first half of the movie stitches together incidents that reveal the growth of Siddharth’s anger from his childhood to college days and then to the present times where he works as a bank employee. The movie without wasting time for usual cheesy love sequences shifts swiftly into the post marriage life of Sidddarth and Anjaly, providing some intriguing insights into their co existence amidst emotional outbursts. Dulquer looked possessed with ‘Kali’ as the actor yet again delivered his charisma on screen while expressing hysterical shades of anger, throughout the movie. Sai Pallavi continues to impress with her on screen presence and simplicity of expressions, while the actress’s dialogue delivery sounded animated at times. The second half of the movie takes a darker tone, when the couple gets struck in the middle of nowhere, as situations worsen with Siddarth’s unruly behaviour. Estranged from their urban habitat, the couple get stranded in a sub urban village in Tamilnadu, where Siddarth is forced to abide his anger. For the first time Siddharth’s anger is shown tamed when he had to confront humans with far more animalistic instincts, and that’s when the movie becomes interesting. The introduction of ‘Chakkara’ (Chemban Vinod)and ‘Josettan’ (Vinayakan) in the second half mounts the intensity of the movie as both Chemban Vinod and Vinayakan essay their negative roles with ease.

Samir Tahir has turned a tricky script of Rajesh Gopinadhan into a watchable movie complimented by an excellent performance by the cast. The care with which rage, the omnipresent protagonist in the movie is developed needs to be appreciated especially while focussing on instances where Siddharth’s anger was just an immediate reaction to his surroundings. The movie also tries to project the grey side of lawless sub urban pockets of Tamil Nadu, if not India.

Even though Gopi Sundar’s back ground score adds to the tension of the movie, there have been claims that the Gopi Sundar has copied the music from a foreign language movie, which the music director has now accepted.

So if you don’t mind clichés like villains being dark in colour, women depicted as the one who need protection, and usual concepts of heroism , then ‘Kali’ is indeed a movie to be watched once.

Alagiri submits ‘wish list’

Though for the record, the DMK had downplayed the recent meeting between the expelled Madurai strongman M.K. Alagiri and his father-cum-party president M. Karunanidhi, it is reliably learnt that on the occasion the former had shared his inputs on facing the ensuing Assembly election.
A source close to Mr. Alagiri told The Hindu on Monday that the former Union Minister had discussed certain political issues, particularly those pertaining to the southern districts, the choice of potential candidates and spending money for electioneering.
“He had suggested fielding new faces, preferably youngsters and women candidates. If the party carried the right propaganda, the DMK has bright chances of winning a majority of seats from Theni to Kanyakumari,” the source said. Instead of fielding former ministers, women candidates who have served the party for long number of years should be given preference. Likewise, Mr. Alagiri is learnt to have suggested certain “strategies” to be adopted in spending money for the election.
He had also said that booth-level committee cadres should be motivated to reach out to the voters as early as possible.
Mr Alagiri was apparently of the view that the DMK’s fulfilled promises during its last regime for the people of south should be recalled, including the major infrastructural facilities like setting up the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.
On candidate selection, Mr. Alagiri is believed to have spoken at length with Mr. Karunanidhi and even cautioned how a wrong choice might spoil the chances of victory for the DMK and had reportedly shared his “wish list” of candidates.
He had also shared with his father that there was no threat from the MDMK leader Vaiko, who had helped form the alliance with Vijayakant. The former DMK south zone organising secretary felt that the third front may face a washout in the polls.
In the absence of an anti-incumbency wave, the DMK has to fight harder to win the confidence of voters. The only solace for the DMK is the rise in infighting in AIADMK functionaries in southern districts like Theni, Madurai, Thoothukudi, Sivaganga among others, where there were many power centres.
The sources said Mr Alagiri insisted that the DMK should also give representation to Dalits in the party to contest as the community was in a state of shock and anger with the AIADMK after numerous honour killings and abuses by caste Hindus in southern districts had not seen any tangible action by police.
When Mr. Alagiri was then in the party and was the south zone organising secretary, he had steered the DMK to victory in all the by-polls held in Madurai Central, Madurai West, Tirumangalam and Tiruchendur, defeating its arch rival AIADMK. Nonetheless, the party was humbled in the 2011 Assembly polls.

Money power will not win, says Vaiko

Money power would not win in the forthcoming Assembly election, said Vaiko, general secretary of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, while addressing a meeting of the People’s Welfare Front here on Monday night.
Appealing to the people to prevent distribution of money for votes, Mr. Vaiko said that the State had “turned into hell” because of corruption and liquor.
While recalling the death of Gandhian Sasi Perumal near Nagercoil in the struggle demanding total prohibition, Mr. Vaiko said that it was a murder perpetrated by the government.
He accused the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam of planning to win the election with money power and was confident that Kanyakumari district would follow the Kerala model of not voting for the party in power.
Mr. Vaiko assured to provide a corruption and liquor-free government, with Vijayakant as Chief Minister, if the PWF-DMDK combine was voted to power.
State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) G. Ramakrishnan said that the PWF-DMDK government would bring in an anti-corruption law and confiscate ill-gotten wealth.
CPI State secretary R. Mutharasan said that both the major Dravidan parties faced corruption charges and wondered why all attention was now on the PWF and DMDK, which was described as an alignment of zero with zero. Founder of Viduthalai Chirtuthaigal Katchi Thol. Tirukmavalavan also addressed the meeting.

DMDK-PWF team will oust Dravidian parties, says Premalatha

DMDK women’s wing leader Premalatha Vijayakant on Monday attacked the two Dravidian parties at a public meeting here saying Tamil Nadu could be saved only by defeating the AIADMK and DMK in the ensuing Assembly elections.
At the party’s election manifesto propagation meeting, she alleged that the DMK and the AIADMK together ensured that no alternative emerged to challenge them in the electoral arena over the past six decades to share the spoils of power.
However, now the DMDK-PWF alliance had been emerging as a potent combine to oust them from power with the support of the people in the coming Assembly elections, she said.

The AIADMK regime, she alleged, had let down the Delta farmers badly but heaped cheap self praise on itself as the retriever of State’s rights in the Cauvery river which was not true.

TELUGU MOVIE REVIEW : NENU SAILAJA STARRRING SATHYARAJ, RAM, KEERTHY SURESH

Nenu Sailaja: Feels like a good start

Though the film doesn’t tell a radically new story, soak in the milieu created by Kishore. For, the little joys are rare to find.

A little girl, Sailaja, is upset that her father (Sathyaraj) who is out of town on work doesn’t make it home for her birthday. Instead, he sends her a birthday gift, a ring that is one size too big for her. She weeps and throws it away. A boy, Hari, picks up the ring, ties a thread, slides it down a long twine and it reaches her window. The re-sized ring fits her finger and she beams. Years later, the girl recreates this sequence for an ad film. Nenu Sailaja is a throwback to innocent romance that blooms in the countryside.

Sailaja (Keerthy Suresh) doesn’t long for that boy but remembers his gesture and her happiness thereafter. The distance between her and her father remains to be bridged. Hari (Ram) remembers her fondly, regrets that he never told her how much he loved her. He doesn’t want to repeat that mistake ever and never misses a chance to express his love to any charming woman he comes across, only to be spurned.

Director Kishore Tirumala throws Sailaja and Hari together again, making them cross paths through a series of convenient incidents. Hari takes it as an act of destiny. The lead actors are good, the cinematography (by Sameer Reddy) is pleasing on the eye and the background score playfully rises and ebbs according to the situation. So though the film isn’t telling us a radically new story, we give in and soak in the milieu created by Kishore. These little joys are becoming rare to find.

The families of the two protagonists define who they are. Hari has a twin sister (Srimukhi) and the siblings have grown up in a house where they don’t have to think twice before sharing their thoughts with their parents (Naresh and Pragathi). This transparency is sorely missing in Sailaja’s family and becomes a stumbling block for the romance. The mother (Rohini) has forever tried to hold the house together that she doesn’t notice something amiss as the daughter’s wedding draws closer.

While watching many a love story unfold, we would have exclaimed in exasperation that a whole lot of drama could have been avoided if only the characters discussed things up front. This film explains that fragile relationships need to be handled with patience and tact.

The latter portions unfold in a sort of DDLJ way with Hari befriending Sailaja’s family members, but the bride here isn’t waiting to be taken away. There’s an interesting angle to the story that comes through Sailaja’s brother (Prince). This character could have been handled with a little more depth. The plot focuses so much on the complex father-daughter bond that one never gets an idea of how the son responded to the father.

Ram seems to be enjoying moving away from formula masalas and handles his role with confidence. Keerthy Suresh makes a refreshing entry into Telugu cinema with an understated, mature performance. One just wished she had more to do in the latter half than quietly brood. The actors playing the parents of the protagonists are an asset to the film. It would have been even better if Sathyaraj had dubbed his own voice. The brief face-offs between Sathyaraj and veteran actor Vijaykumar are charming. Dhanya Balakrishna and Chaitanya Krishna feature in extended cameos.

This is a simple story of relationships, beautifully told. A few frills, like a song in front of a dhaba and a needless land shark of a villain don’t gel with the rest of the film. Ignore these and Nenu Sailaja is a feel-good film to start the year with.

Nenu Sailaja
Cast: Ram, Keerthy Suresh, Sathyaraj and Rohini
Genre: Romance
Direction: Kishore Tirumala
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Plot: The hero has to iron out frictions in the heroine’s family to win her over.
